- Investments in our people, facilities, equipment, and technology will prepare Rome Health for the future healthcare landscape, better serving our community when they need care the most.
- With more residents squarely in the elderly demographic, surgical demand will increase. This will require greater efficiencies through technological investments, meeting the publics’ elevated volume and required access to care.
We have made a commitment to strengthening our healthcare system. The City of Rome is growing rapidly and Rome Health is vital to this region's economic growth and vitality, providing $158M annually.
For the first time in decades, we are increasing single-family housing and market-rate apartment capacity. Rome Health is a major employer and provider of healthcare services to those who live and work here. With approximately 700 FTEs, we continue to seek opportunities to serve the community at-large. |
What's next?
To meet the needs of our community, Rome Health and Rome Health Foundation have embarked on a campaign to replace its 57-year-old surgical services and outdated Intensive Care Unit.
- Currently, we are experiencing a 26% increase in surgical volume since 2020 and expect that number to continue to rise as 1 in 4 Oneida County residents meet the age of 65 by 2030.
- Our ORs are among the oldest surgical facilities in the region and are in critical need of replacement to bring the outdated physical plant and its infrastructure up to modern codes. Within our campaign, we will renovate our four ORs to expand our capabilities and create an environment that reflects the great care our patients receive.
- Our current ICU has outgrown its ability to support our most vulnerable patients and their families. A new 9-bed ICU will provide modern equipment while accommodating our patients and their families in a large, comfortable room.
The comprehensive campaign will increase community access to world-class care by attracting and
retaining top medical providers through investments in our infrastructure and technology.

- The investment in our robotics program will expand our lines of service with the use of innovative practices & procedures. Our goal is to provide our patients and their families with more opportunities to receive care in Rome.
- Adding robotic surgical systems will complement the renovations of four new ORs and enable the hospital to recruit additional surgeons who will serve all populations. Expanding access locally will reduce the risk of vulnerable populations delaying care when it is needed.
- Today’s surgeons are being trained in state-of-the-art facilities with the latest in surgical technology and are attracted to facilities where they can continue to use and advance their skills.
Ensuring Rome Health Foundation’s long-term success helps solidify future advancements in healthcare in Rome.
- The financial stability of Rome Health Foundation allows for greater capacity to support Rome Health’s physical and programmatic priorities.
